On Tuesday, Texas U.S. Rep. Louie Gohmert (R–TX) announced his candidacy for Texas attorney general, joining four others in the race for the Republican nomination.
The incumbent, Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton, has found himself at the center of controversy in recent years, prompting additional challenges from current Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush, former Texas Supreme Court Justice Eva Guzman, and current State Rep. Matt Krause (R–Haslet).
On his campaign website, Gohmert says, “We need a Texas Attorney General whose top attorneys working for him have not found it necessary to send a letter to the FBI urging an investigation into corruption of their boss.” Larger Primary Field Increases Likelihood of Runoff Election
Gohmert has served in the U.S. Congress since 2005 and is a member of the Congressional House Freedom Caucus. He is consistently rated as one of the most conservative congressmen by groups like Heritage Action, Club for Growth, FreedomWorks, and the American Conservative Union.
Gohmert served as a state district judge from 1992 to 2002, and he was appointed by then-Governor Rick Perry to serve as chief justice on Texas’ 12th Court of Appeals.
His candidacy likely will split conservative voters and activist organizations in the lead-up to the primary election currently scheduled for March 1, 2022.

I sure like Louie. Could he do anything in that position? Would it be more than he can do where he is now?

I will not enjoy losing Louie as my congressman. Bigger things might be in play.
Perhaps Louie sees DC as hopeless and wants to concentrate on Texas secession and sees the AG position as a fulcrum to make that happen?
If that can be accomplished, it takes a lot of effort going against DC and the GOP establishment, something Louie has dedicated his career doing.

FYI, this is the last communication I made with my state representative to plea for his support for Texit. I once again approach you to consider an affirmative vote to placing on November's ballot that Texas review the matter of secession.
Since we last communicated, we have seen the horrendous destruction in civil liberties that has taken place from Congress, the President and even the Supreme Court, from cramming CRT down our throats, mandates on an experimental vaccine drug, refusal to stop the flow of illegals over our southern border, permitting enemies like the Taliban to have Twitter accounts while a past President is not permitted one, and on and on. Now our state is being targeted to have federal funds reduced if we do not vaccinate school kids. All of this does not even include the absolute fiasco in Afghanistan where a President refuses to rescue Americans trapped within another country whose radical elements in power are bent on torturing and executing them, a situation which he caused and will do nothing to help.
And the current 'infrastructure' legislation before Congress is essentially payments to the lockdown blue states that chose to hurt their economies and will be paid by us red states who chose freedoms instead of lockdowns.
We need serious consideration in this state toward an independent Texas. Even if the decision is that we remain within the USA, a strong signal is sent to DC that this is an important matter to us. And we will not be alone as a plethora of other states would support us.
I find it alarming that you as my representative will not even support us citizens the opportunity to express one way or the other whether we should take up as a state deliberation of this matter. That is not what a representative should be doing.
With the current legislative session underway, we have been presented with an added opportunity and we should not be missing out. We need desperately to send a clear message to DC that Texas is deciding on its own its prerogative to separate from what is considered a broken contract we entered into when we entered the Union.
The takeover by the feds on our elections here in Texas might mean there will never be another chance for us Texas citizens to remain Texans.
So let us not wait for 2022 as there might not be a legitimate election taking place if these radicals takeover.

As we get closer to primary time, I remain somewhat undecided on who to fill in for AG. Paxton does good there, but what does Louie know that caused him to publicly say Paxton is running afoul of the law?
@Tinker - Did you finally identify the foul smell? o @Sanguine You had mentioned Louie was visiting your environs to explain his running for AG. Any report?
