Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced the deployment of the state’s National Guard and State Troopers to respond to the growing border crisis.

Governor Abbott announced Operation Lone Star “to combat the smuggling of people and drugs into Texas” on Saturday. The operation will integrate the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) with the National Guard, Abbott said. He is ordering the deployment of air, ground, marine, and tactical border security assets to high threat areas.

“The crisis at our southern border continues to escalate because of Biden Administration policies that refuse to secure the border and invite illegal immigration,” the governor said in a written statement Saturday evening. “Texas supports legal immigration but will not be an accomplice to the open border policies that cause, rather than prevent, a humanitarian crisis in our state and endanger the lives of Texans. We will surge the resources and law enforcement personnel needed to confront this crisis.”

Abbott issued the deployment order following a meeting with Texas DPS Director Colonel Steve McCraw. The two discussed strategies to increase safety and security along the border.

The announcement follows a massive increase in illegal border crossings since President Joe Biden took office in January.

Texas Launches ‘Operation Lone Star’ to Counter Biden Border Chaos

Recently-inaugurated President Joseph R. Biden is presiding over an increase in illegal entries, inspired by his campaign promises and policy adjustments, which encourage Latin Americans (and others) to make a run for the border.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott (pictured) has responded with a Texas operation meant to counter the problem.

This is not the first time the state of Texas has done something to combat the Biden administration’s encouragement of open borders.

On the second full day of the Biden presidency, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton brought suit against the Biden administration’s 100-day deportation moratorium, a suit which was successful in at least delaying one aspect of the Biden agenda.

Now Texas is launching Operation Lone Star.

A March 6th statement from Governor Abbot’s office declared that “Governor Greg Abbott and the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) today launched Operation Lone Star to combat the smuggling of people and drugs into Texas. The Operation integrates DPS with the Texas National Guard and deploys air, ground, marine, and tactical border security assets to high threat areas to deny Mexican Cartels and other smugglers the ability to move drugs and people into Texas.”

The statement blamed the Biden administration: “The crisis at our southern border continues to escalate because of Biden Administration policies that refuse to secure the border and invite illegal immigration. Texas … will not be an accomplice to the open border policies that cause, rather than prevent, a humanitarian crisis in our state and endanger the lives of Texans. We will surge the resources and law enforcement personnel needed to confront this crisis.”

It’s a bold move, and I wish it success.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) reported on Wednesday that the number of illegal alien family units apprehended in Texas almost tripled in February, accompanying a 70 percent increase in the apprehension of unaccompanied minors.

Similar to January, enforcement encounters in Texas during February constituted about two-thirds of the total number for the southwest border patrol region. There were around 97,000 apprehensions in the southwest region total, approximately 64,000 of which were in Texas.

The sharpest increase was in the Rio Grande Valley, where illegal alien family unit apprehensions shot up by 444 percent, from just under 2,000 in January to well over 10,000 in February.-- excerpt, rest at link above --
