Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin is going to war against “extremism.”
On Wednesday, Austin decreed that over the next sixty days, the entire U.S. Armed forces must go through a stand-down period in order to address the supposed shadow army of fascists and racists who fill its ranks.
In the military, “stand down” orders are commands to every unit in the armed forces to temporarily suspend normal operations and hold assemblies in order to address and discuss a specific issue. In 2013, for instance, Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel ordered stand-downs across the globe in order to address sexual assault within the military.
What can we expect this time around? A relevant comparison is the time Starbucks closed all its stores for one day to hold propaganda workshops on racism. Because make no mistake: Propaganda is exactly what will come out of this. The reporting by the press is precisely backwards. Austin is not “removing” extremism from the military’s ranks. He is imposing it. -- excerpt, rest at link above --
"I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo.
"So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us."
