Texas Department of Public Safety Lt. Chris Olivarez has shed light on startling new CBP data revealing that tens of thousands of unaccompanied minors are crossing the U.S. southern border.

The numbers are alarming:

- 2023: 137,275 unaccompanied minors crossed
- FYTD 2024: 73,977 unaccompanied minors crossed

Olivarez indicates that this trend is ongoing amidst the escalating border crisis. He explains how this phenomenon is not discussed and not much is being done to address it.

"Why aren't we talking about unaccompanied children more, when we talk about the border crisis right now? We are still seeing unaccompanied children coming across the border."

He explains that many of these children enter the U.S. with virtually nothing, often only carrying a piece of paper with contact information for their destination.

"These children, they come across, I mean they have a piece of paper with an address and a phone number and then that's it."

Upon encountering these minors at the border, the current process involves USBP turning them over to federal authorities. However, Olivarez says that border agents never truly know what happens to these children.

"We turn them over to federal authorities and then, who knows where they end up through the process."
