Beaumont � Breaking news Friday night in north Beaumont where police are investigating a drive-by shooting that injured two people in a crowd that included adults and small children playing, according to information Sgt. Thomas Swope provided to KFDM/Fox 4 News.

Officers located a scene that stretched from both Regent Street and Jirou Street with dozens of spent shell casings in the intersection and streets.

Investigators located one victim still on scene with a non-life threatening gunshot wound. Beaumont EMS arrived on scene and transported the victim to CHRISTUS St. Elizabeth Hospital. Another victim was transported to CHRISTUS St. Elizabeth Hospital by private auto. That victim sustained gunshot wounds to the leg area. Police tell us bullets struck a number of residences and vehicles in the area.

Police learned from information at the scene that shortly after 7 p.m. Friday, drivers of a white pickup truck, a white SUV and a white Chrysler 300 were travelling east on Regent.-- excerpt, rest at link above --

Officials on Monday charged 34-year-old man George Alvarez with eight counts of manslaughter in connection to the crash that killed 8 people outside of a migrant facility in Brownsville, Texas.

Police also said he was charged with 10 counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after 10 people were injured in the incident, The Associated Press reported.

The crash occurred Sunday morning, and most of the victims are Venezuelan men, officials said.

The victims were struck as they waited at an unmarked bus stop across the street from the migrant shelter known as Bishop Enrique San Pedro Ozanam Center.

The SUV ran a red light and hit people sitting at the bus stop, according to shelter director Victor Maldonado. The SUV flipped after running the curb and went 200 feet down the road, he also said.-- excerpt, rest at link above --

If getting guns off the street without due process through bans and regulation would have any positive impact on madness like this, the cost in eroded freedom and the lessening of personal responsibility would be devastating.

I want to be a responsible gun owner. Responsible gun owners are good therapy for any peaceful society.

I can't be a responsible gun owner if I can't have my guns.

Guns beget responsibility.

The driver accused of running over and killing eight people outside a migrant facility in Brownsville, Texas, over the weekend was identified Monday as a 34-year-old with a lengthy rap sheet.

George Alvarez was arraigned Monday on eight counts of manslaughter and 10 counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for the horrifying crash on Sunday morning. He was ordered held on a bail of $3.6 million.

Brownsville Police Chief Felix Sauceda said it�s still unclear whether the mass killing was an intentional act by Alvarez�who has a lengthy criminal record, according to Sauceda�or an accident. He said cops are still awaiting toxicology results and wouldn�t comment on reports that Alvarez hurled anti-immigrant comments as he was taken into custody.

�The SUV ran a red light, lost control, clipped on his side and struck a total of 18 individuals,� Sauceda said.

Records show that Alvarez lives in Brownsville, a city of 187,000 that borders Matamoros, Mexico.

Cops displayed a placard next to Alvarez�s mugshot during a Monday press conference that listed his criminal history. It said Alvarez has prior charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, assault against an elderly or disabled person, four counts of assault causing bodily injury to a family member, and at least 11 other charges.-- excerpt, rest at link above --
